Resurfacing works took place at Fox Milne and Northfield roundabouts overnight on 6-7 July. A hot rolled asphalt surface treatment with embedded chippings was used as this provides a more durable longer lasting surface.

The Council’s Street Cleansing department is responsible for weed killing on highway surfaces and undertakes one annual spray across Milton Keynes. The recent high rainfall coupled with the warm weather are ideal conditions for weeds to flourish.

The Highways team regularly clean the roadside gullies around Milton Keynes' roads using special gully cleaning vehicles. Their service provider Ringway has added a brand new gully cleaning vehicle to their fleet so the cleaning can be done by them rather than a third party.

An active badger sett has been discovered underneath the B526 near Stoke Goldington. After flooding earlier this year washed away part of the road's substructure, part of the sett was visible to our officers. As badgers are a protected species, the repair work cannot begin until we have received a licence from Natural England.

A new zebra crossing is being designed for Aylesbury Street, Fenny Stratford after officers met with some local residents of a nearby residential home. Many in the home have mobility issues so a safe crossing point was required nearby.

During July the UK saw some of the highest temperatures so far this year with Milton Keynes reaching 30 degrees and above. As with severe cold or wet weather, too much heat can affect the road's surface and also delay repair works.

A redundant lamp post has become an unlikely work of art after the Highways team 'donated' it to a local art project which celebrates the link Milton Keynes has with Japan.
