Western Expansion Area (WEA)

Planning

The Western Expansion Area was allocated for development as part of the Milton Keynes Local Plan in 2005. It will be the largest of the expansion areas in Milton Keynes, accommodating around 6,550 homes, 10 – 20ha of employment land and a number of key buildings [explained further in the next chapter]. Outline planning consent was granted in 2007 for both areas; Whitehouse application 05/00291/MKPCO & Fairfield’s application 06/00123/MKPCO.

development framework for the WEA was adopted by Milton Keynes Council in 2005 and sets out the master plan for the site. In addition the framework designates 16 design principles to guide developers and promote a modern 21st Century sustainable expansion to Milton Keynes. These principles focus on concepts of sustainable construction, integration of green space, priority routes for public transport and a multi-use public realm.
