Milton Keynes Economic Growth and Employment Land Study, Supply & Demand – Partial Update June 2017
The study has been produced for Milton Keynes Council by consultants GVA, it updates their earlier work (The Employment Land review and Economic Growth study Phases 1 and 2) produced in November 2015.
The updated study, which forms part of the evidence base for the Council’s new Local Plan (Plan:MK) forecasts the amount of employment land needed within the Borough and floorspace requirements in terms of office, industrial and warehousing floorspace from 2016-2031. The study also forecasts growth in the number of jobs in the Borough over the period 2016-2031.
Milton Keynes Economic Growth and Employment Land Study - November 2015
Milton Keynes Council (MKC) and the Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) appointed consultants GVA Grimley (now Bilfinger GVA) to undertake an Employment Land Study for Milton Keynes in June 2014. The Employment Land Study forms part of the evidence base for the Council’s new Local Plan, Plan:MK together with other documents.
This study entitled ‘The Milton Keynes Employment Land Review and Economic Growth Study’ was concluded in November 2015 with the publication of the final report, which is in two parts:-
This study has two primary purposes, to establish the likely level of jobs growth from the forecasted economic growth of Milton Keynes up to 2031 and to assess the implications for the Council in planning for the anticipated level of economic growth.
This results in two forecasts for land requirements (see page 112 of the Part 1 report) and recommendations with key development options in the conclusions to the Part 2 report.
Although the focus of this study is on the supply and demand for land and future land requirements up to 2031, the study does cover some other aspects of the Milton Keynes economy. More detailed analysis and information about the Milton Keynes economy such as the local labour market and education and training issues can be found in the Council’s Local Economic Assessment (LEA) which can be viewed at Local Economic Assessment 2016.
