Local Plan Saved Policies

As of 21st December 2008, some Local Plan Policies have been deleted and can no longer be used in the determination of planning applications.

Under the new planning system, existing local plans were automatically saved for a period of three years from the start date of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, in September 2004, or for three years from their date of adoption. Policies from the Milton Keynes Local Plan (adopted December 2005) were therefore automatically saved until December 2008. To enable essential policies to be saved beyond this date, Milton Keynes Council put forward proposals to save policies from the local plan beyond December 2008 and to suggest which policies from the local plan can be deleted.

On 24th October 2008, the Government Office issued the following letter confirming our proposed schedule of policies which should be saved beyond December 2008. Government Office Saved Policies Direction Letter (PDF, 61KB)

The policies that are not included in their letter were deleted from the development plan with effect from 21st December 2008. Therefore the policies that have been deleted can no longer be used in the determination of planning applications after that date. The following note gives the reasons why these policies have been deleted and which national or regional policies can be used in their place. Local Plan Saved Policies information note (DOC, 252KB)
