Plan:MK - a clarification

Friday 23 October 2015

Following local reports about ‘secret’ plans to redevelop Milton Keynes, we would like to confirm this document was not secret and will be published in full next week.

The preparation of Plan:MK included a series of workshops involving local people, businesses and other stakeholders to encourage creativity and ideas about how Milton Keynes could look in 50 years’ time.

The report summarises the ideas put forward by local people, not Milton Keynes Council.

It is not, and was never intended to be a secret report, and will initially be aired before Milton Keynes Council’s 9 November Cabinet – a meeting open to the public. The relevant committee papers are normally published a week to 10 days before so people will have a chance to see them well in advance of this meeting.

From then there will be a lengthy period of public consultation, further discussions etc, including a Public Inquiry, where the independent Planning Inspectorate will need to find the plan is ‘sound’ before anything can move on.

Plan:MK is very much still in its infancy and of course we would encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the discussion and formulation of plans on how they want their borough to look in the future.
