Primary School banner competition - winner announced!
Friday 10 January 2020
The winner and runner ups in our Park Smart banner competition were presented with their prizes of shopping vouchers and goodie bags on Thursday 9 January by Shelley Peppard, General Manager at intu MK.
Congratulations to Johnny Jeywright from Brooksward School in Neath Hill whose eye-catching design and simple but strong message was chosen as the overall winner. His design idea will be turned into a new banner as part of the second phase in our Park Smart campaign to encourage people to park safely and considerately outside schools.
The two runner ups were Ocean Kwok from Brooklands Farm Primary School and Ewan Simpson from Two Mile Ash Primary School.
Shelley said, “I was very impressed with the number of well-drawn, colourful designs but it was also clear that they had thought a lot about the road safety messages too. I had a difficult time narrowing the choice down to one winner with two runner ups as the overall standard was so high”.
Primary school children were asked to enter our competition, which was supported by intu MK, to draw a new banner to encourage safer parking outside schools in December 2019. The banners will be available for all schools in MK to display from February 2020.
The Park Smart campaign began in 2016 as a response to concerns over road safety outside schools through inconsiderately parked cars. Schools were offered a free banner to place at the front of the school to deter unsafe or inconsiderate parking and to help and support pupils and parents to choose alternative options to get to school such as walking or cycling.
MK Council’s Road Safety team continue to work closely with local schools to educate, enforce and engage with parents, pupils and local residents.
