Food and garden waste weekly collections to restart Monday 11 May

FINAL - green bin restart

MK Council will be restarting its weekly food and garden waste collections on Monday 11 May.

Collections were suspended earlier this month due to reduced staff numbers caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The situation has now improved enough for MK Council and partner Serco to resume collections from 11 May.

To find out when your food and garden waste will be collected, please look up your address on the council’s website at https://mapping.milton-keynes.gov.uk/

Managing the backlog may mean lots of waste and potentially some delays. We ask that you try to limit the amount that goes out. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept bagged green waste in addition to the bins. We know that people may have accumulated green waste during this brief pause, so would ask that you keep composting where you can.

Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, Councillor Emily Darlington said: “I’d like to thank everyone for your patience while we’ve had to pause weekly green bin collections, and our bin crews who have worked tirelessly in these exceptional circumstances to keep waste and recycling collections going as usual.”

When food and garden waste collections were suspended, the council wrote to everyone who subscribes to its council news email service and took out a radio advertising campaign to reach as many people as possible. Residents are asked to help by sharing the information as widely as possible with friends and neighbours.

Household Waste Recycling Centres are not yet reopening, in line with Government advice around what is and isn’t an essential journey.
