FINAL - winter wheelers

  • Local riders will attempt a World Record attempt for the most number of people cycling dressed as Santa

People in Milton Keynes are being encouraged to take part in the Winter Wheelers national cycling campaign for a chance to win daily prizes during advent.

Organised by Love to Ride, the 25-day festive campaign starting on 1 December is among the biggest national cycling initiatives of the year and is open to everyone regardless of how often they ride.

Love to Ride in partnership with MK Council are hosting an online webinar on 15 November at 12noon for people to learn more about riding in the winter months and opportunities in MK.  The link to join the online webinar is available here.

The Council is working in partnership with community group Cycling Citizens MK to promote the campaign locally this year.  Alongside the national Winter Wheelers campaign, Cycling Citizens MK will also attempt to complete a Guinness World Record for the most number of people dressed as Santa taking part in a group cycle ride on 16 December at 5pm, starting in Station Square and ending at the MK Rose in Campbell Park following a raffle hosted by Mayor Mohammed Khan.

Anyone who attends the record attempt and has logged rides will receive tickets for the local prize raffle.  To find out more about the MK record attempt and local raffle, visit the Get Around MK website at https://getaroundmk.org.uk/events/cycling-santa-event.

Cllr Jennifer Wilson-Marklew, Cabinet Member at MK Council for Climate Action and Sustainability said: “I hope people in Milton Keynes take up the opportunity to win some really fun prizes during the Winter Wheelers campaign. Cycling is such a lovely way to travel around the city and it’s better for our health and the environment.  With the added incentive of winning prizes every day during December, what’s not to love to ride.”

It's free and easy to join the national Winter Wheelers campaign.  You only have to log 10 minutes’ worth of cycle time to be entered into the national daily prize draws.  To find out more about the national Winter Wheelers campaign and to sign up, click here.
