English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL courses are for people living in the UK whose first language is not English. Courses lead to a national qualification. We offer courses at different levels so you will need to come for a Skills Check to find the right course for you. To find out more and to arrange a Skills Check send us an email at communitylearning.mk@milton-keynes.gov.uk with your name and contact details.

Improving your English

  • Gain confidence
  • Find employment
  • Get on at work
  • Study at a college or university
  • Be involved in the community

Community Learning MK offers a range of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses from beginner (Entry 1) to advanced (Level 2). These classes will meet twice a week either during the day or at evenings and weekends.

You must be over 19 years old to join our courses.

Twelve-week courses cost £199. Courses are free if you are;

  • unemployed and actively looking for work and receiving JSA, ESA (WRAG) or an income-based benefit (including Universal Credit) in your name
  • employed and paid less than £17004 per year.
You need to attend a Skills Check session before you join a course, so that we can help you find the right level. Please call 01908 254070 to make an appointment.

Please note that attending a skills check does not guarantee you a place on a course.

Former ESOL students said:

Learning English with CLMK gave me the confidence to go to job interviews.

Now I understand what my children are doing at school and how I can help them at home.

I can now talk to the doctor on my own.

I got a job because I improved my level of English with CLMK.

CLMK helped me to talk to my child’s school teacher.

I made new friends at CLMK and that’s helped me settle in to the community.

CLMK gave me the confidence to speak to managers and manage my issues at work.

I now study nursing at university; improving my English helped me with my application forms.
