MK YCAB Elections 2018

We're pleased to announce the MK YCAB members for 2019-2021...

During the forthcoming election period (28 January 2019 to 28 Februrary 2019), there’ll be a Youth Issue Ballot paper – which takes place every two years.  The ballot will decide what campaigns and projects YCAB will be working on, as members aim to help improve young people’s lives in MK.  There’ll be eight campaign topics to choose from on the ballot paper, and the two most voted for will become the official campaigns of YCAB in 2019 until 2021.  Get in touch with your school to vote!

Youth Cabinet Past events and achievements

 

Funding

YCAB have been awarded £30,000 of funding for the next three years, giving the Youth Cabinet full responsibility over their budget so they can prioritise and make decisions directly. You can read more about YCAB funding here.

Pizza and politics

Then newly elected YCAB members arranged to meet with councillors to discuss issues raised in the 2017 youth elections and share pizza and cake. In small groups YCAB

members discussed mental health, education and bullying amongst other issues. 

MK Council Budget Consultation 2017

YCAB collected 121 questionnaires completed by the youth of MK on the 2017 budget. Responses were analysed and three topics that were mentioned frequently were the All in One Card, green spaces and park land. This information was then written into a formal report and sent to the MK Council for further analysis.  Five members of YCAB attended a full council meeting on the Budget and spoke on behalf of MK’s young people to make sure their voices were heard.

Anti-Bullying

Don’t Hate – Educate

More than 50 young people gathered in the Council Chamber in August to talk about how to tackle racism, prejudice and religious intolerance.  The event also included workshops hosted by local people from the Tamil and Middle Eastern Islamic communities, as well as one on Jewish culture.

YCAB launched a series of striking posters as part of their 'See Sense, Stop Bullying' campaign in October 2016. The campaign, which also includes stories from those who have been bullied, focuses on key bullying issues facing young people today: race and religion, lesbian, gay and bi-sexual (LGBT) and disability. YCAB members have attended Council meetings to inform adults of the right for young people to be able to vote in local national elections. 

YCAB Scavenger Hunt

In 2017, YCAB encouraged more young people to uses the buses by creating a scavenger hunt on Arriva's bus routes. 32 people took part, each were given a free goodie bag

and a free day bus ticket, collecting stamps at certain stops across the city. The winners of the hunt were Jessica Martin and Jessica Greasby who both received a £50 shopping voucher kindly donated by Arriva.
