Supplementary schools

Thousands of Milton Keynes children and young people attend supplementary schools after school and over the weekend.

These schools offer a range of experiences for pupils including:

  • learning about cultural and language heritage
  • learning about faith and religion
  • exploring national curriculum subjects – usually English and maths

Many Milton Keynes supplementary schools collaborate with mainstream schools to support learning and provide access to communities.

The MK supplementary school Standards Framework

This document is designed to support supplementary school leaders to ensure that their school meets the standards that are widely recognised as a safe education environment for an out of school setting in the UK. It sets out the minimum standard required by Milton Keynes local authority.
