Becoming a School Governor
Governors are part of a team that work together to ensure that all pupils can develop as individuals and receive an outstanding education. Working closely with the headteacher and staff, they have responsibility for the strategic management of the school.
All schools have a full governing board meeting once a term, occasionally two, and you will join a committee. Committees are usually where the detailed discussion and work takes place.
As a governor you will need to get to know your school, this will help you understand the impact of the decisions that you make will have. There is an extensive governor programme designed to ensure that governors' training needs are met. In addition to this there will be the help and support of colleague governors together with advice from the headteacher and the LA to help you become familiar with your role as quickly as possible.

If you decide you would like to become a governor please complete the Governor Application Form. A member of the Leadership and Governance Team will be in contact with you to discuss further.
One of the Council’s highest priorities is to raise the attainment of all its pupils and governors are expected to pro-actively challenge the work of the school and to monitor and evaluate its performance. People will bring different skills and experiences to the role which may better qualify them for a specific category of governor.
