Hiring an instrument
Community Learning MK - Music Faculty offers instrument hire with beginners in mind - it is flexible and excellent value.
Who can hire?
We want to encourage music making across the whole of Milton Keynes and so we offer any pupil in a Milton Keynes School or any member of an MK Music Centre Ensemble the chance to use a musical instrument (subject to availability).
How it works?
The pupil’s parent/guardian needs to submit a signed instrument request form (click on the link below) together with the initial hire fee and/or concessionary fee application. Within 10 working days you will be notified when you can collect your specified instrument, subject to availability, from Milton Keynes Music Faculty, Rivers Centre, Humber Way, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, MK3 7PH
Starting to hire
You can start to hire at any point during the year if we have an instrument available.
Length of hire period
The hire service gives children a first chance to try an instrument. We expect that you will wish to buy a new or more advanced instrument as your child progresses and that you will return the hire instrument to us so that we can offer the chance to another pupil. For that reason, most of our hire charges increase after the first year of hire (except for rare instruments or for pupils who pay a reduced hire (if receiving Pupil Premium).
Instruments you can hire
We offer a wide range of the most common instruments which are suitable for beginners. However, we do not offer keyboards, electric guitars or drum kits for hire. Most of our instruments are not new but they are all cleaned and checked before each hire to be suitable for beginner players.
What does it cost?
You can start hiring at any point during the school year. An initial payment of £25 is collected with your application for your first term's hire. The next term's charge will be invoiced unless the instrument is returned before the end of a term. The termly charges are as below:
