Latest Music Faculty news, updates and term dates

Dear Parents and students

This week would have seen a multitude of great performances from music centre groups at the ‘Fiesta’ and at the Chrysalis Theatre. This will be our last communication with you before the Summer break and we wanted to give you some indication of our plans for the Autumn term.

The very good news is that the MK Music Centre will be back in the Autumn term.  There has been much to consider, amid the constantly changing Covid situation, scientific advice and Government guidelines.  What is becoming increasingly clear is that we will not be back to ‘normal’ during the Autumn term and a large proportion of our offering is going to be ‘online’.   We hope you will understand that a flexible approach is going to be important in a rapidly evolving situation.  However, here are some of the key points that we can tell you:

· Provision will start during the first weekend of October.

· If we can facilitate face to face activities, this will be limited to 15 students per group.

· Some sessions will be held ‘live’ with a Music Centre Teacher via either ‘zoom’ or ‘Microsoft Teams’.

· Students will work towards an ‘End of Term’ performance in the normal way.  If this can be live, it will, if not, it will be held virtually in the form of a ‘multi-screen’ video via our social media platforms.

· Music, backing tracks and ‘guidance videos’ will be made available to every student so that they are able to work on the material at home.

· Music Centre Fees will be adapted to reflect the new provision and we will ask you to confirm whether you would like to take part.

All of us are desperately keen to get back to working with our students and we are looking forward to seeing you all, in some form, in the Autumn.

Have a look at the latest bulletin (PDF, 522KB) and do stay in touch with us.

Kind regards

Giles Liddiard
Instrumental Leader

Chrysalis Concert - Youth Orchestra and String Orchestra

Coloured musical notes

On Thursday 18th July 2019 Youth Orchestra and String Orchestra presented a concert at popular local venue 'The Chrysalis' theatre, Camphill, Willen.

We were treated to an evening of outstanding music, played by two of our senior groups - a lovely end to the term and a chance to wish those leaving to go on to university or other new adventures, thanks and farewell.

Fanfare Coffee Shop

If your son or daughter is working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award, please ask them if they would consider volunteering in the Coffee Shop on at Music Centre on a Saturday morning?  Over the years we have had several students helping out and this fulfils the requirements for the volunteering aspect of the award.  All funds raised from the sale of drinks and snacks will be used to support music making on a Saturday morning.  If interested, please ask to speak to Sian Smith or James Allen at the coffee shop.  We are also looking for adult volunteers to help out, if you are able to give an hour of your time to help set up from 8.30am or at any time during the morning to help the student volunteers, we would love to hear from you!
