We cater for and welcome children from various backgrounds and with additional needs. Some children may arrive with a known diagnosis and we work closely with their families and other professionals to enable us to meet their needs. Other children have concerns raised after starting at the pre-school and we work closely with parents to gather evidence and information to enable us to either provide extra support through planned, adult supported activities which are reviewed and revised regularly or we signpost families to ensure extra professional support is gained. We have a qualified SENCo staff member who ensures that children receive the support needed and that the staff are receiving the appropriate advise and support to meet the needs of all the children.
We provide early years education and care for children aged two years to school age. We provide stimulating and fun activities which cover the seven areas of learning as stated in the early years foundation stage curriculum. Our activities include music sessions, write dance, PE, cooking, science, art and messy play. We have a lovely outside area which provides a fun space for children to play and learn in.
Small Wonders Pre-school operates from a local community centre on Crownhill. We are wheelchair accessible and also have a disabled toilet and changing area. We have experience of working with children who have various additional needs such as social and communication delay, auditory impairment and learning difficulties.
We ascertain a baseline ability on entry in consultation with parents and continue to assess development. Some children will have an additional plan of targeted activities with regular reviews and planning next steps. We liaise with outside professionals such as Speech and Language therapists, health visitors, and specialist teachers. Each chid will be allocated a keyperson who will be supported by the setting SENCo. Our SENCo has attended many local workshops to enable her to fulfil her role within current guidelines. We work closely with feeder schools to ensure a smooth transition to school using various techniques such as visits and photographs.
