SEND Youth Advice and Guidance

Support for young people aged 13-24 that have Special Educational Needs into work and/or training in a variety of venues across Milton Keynes such as youth centers, Children and Families Practices and Community Centres.

The Youth Advice and Guidance Service has a team of specialist Progression Advisors who are experienced in supporting young people who have learning difficulties and disabilities up to the age of 25. Our advisors can provide independent and impartial information, advice and guidance regarding education, training and employment options.

Our specialist team can support young people who are exploring their options and making important decisions about their next steps. This sort of support can be invaluable for young people who are moving on from secondary school. We receive referrals from a variety of sources, including young people themselves.

We are able to support the final review process in school by attending reviews for students who are planning to leave from Year 11 upwards. In preparation for each review we meet with each student and complete an Action Plan with them.

Where a young person has an Education, Health and Care Plan, our progression advisers will meet with them prior to their final review to support them with completing the transition section of the plan.

Our advisers also have a broad knowledge of independent specialist providers out of the county. We can offer independent and impartial support to young people and their parents/carers requiring information about this sort of specialist provision. This support can continue when learners return to Milton Keynes.

Sometimes young people find it difficult to secure education, training or employment when they leave school. In this case they become 'NEET'. (Not in education, employment or training). The Youth Advice and Guidance Service can offer support to 'NEET' young people with learning difficulties and disabilities up to the age of 25, who may be looking for further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.
