Street Cleansing

All Council owned public land should be cleansed on at least an eight weekly basis.  Some areas around schools, shops and areas of high footfall will have a higher frequency.

There are several land owners in Milton Keynes. The Council does not cleanse land belonging to The Parks Trust (except on grid roads), the Homes and Community Agency, businesses, housing associations or private individuals.  You should contact these organisations directly if there are cleansing issues on their land - some links are provided below.

When we cleanse an area we use a combination of litter picking, manual sweeping and mechanical sweeping depending on the needs of an area.  We do not always send all our resources to an area if they are not needed as this would be inefficient - for example, if an area only requires litter picking we will not send manual or mechanical sweepers.

We split our cleansing schedules into 8 weeks.  Every area will be visited at least once during this time.  Some areas will be visited on higher frequencies, receiving fortnightly or even daily visits - especially around schools and shops.  Daily refers to the whole week, Monday to Sunday (not just Monday to Friday) - except Christmas Day when we take a well deserved break.

Schedules can be delayed by public holidays, bad weather (especially snow, when we suspend cleansing so our crews can help with gritting footpaths) and exceptional circumstances that require us to divert the crews away from their planned routes.

Week commencing dates for September, October and November are:

18th September - Week 5
25th September - Week 6

2nd October - Week 7
9th October - Week 8
16th October - Week 1
23rd October - Week 2
30th October - Week 3

6th November - Week 4
13th November - week 5
20th November - Week 6
27th November - week 7

**Cleansing Days may not be in the scheduled order due to the bank holiday

You can find the cleansing frequencies in our easy to use Excel document - Street Cleansing Schedule (XLSX, 24KB)
