The Scheme

In this section you can find all the information on the Recycle & Reward Scheme for parish, town and community councils. The scheme aimed to raise awareness of recycling food waste in MK through the caddy and green bins. Participating local councils had the opportunity to earn ££’s for their area if the food waste tonnage collected in their area improved. The amount of cash they received was linked to the amounts of food waste collected and this was weighed and recorded by our waste contractor, Serco.

The test period was between 1st December 2016 and 28th February 2017.

Supporting Activity

Although the current test period is over, the following supporting activities are ongoing:

  • fully wrapped green bin collection vehicle with ‘Feed your Green Bin’ message - this can be booked to appear in particparting areas if required -  Book here
  • series of videos on MK Council’s YouTube page promoting food waste recycling - youcan view the 'Binwatch' video below
  • regular tweets and posts on the Council’s social media channels - Twitter @mkcouncil and Facebook MKCouncil1
  • 22 page free A5 recipe book – compiled by local chefs and food bloggers with their favourite recipes to use leftover food
  • cooking videos showing the recipes from recipe book being made on the Council's YouTube channel Milton Keynes Council
