Independent Persons - Vacancies

We’re looking to appoint a number of Independent Persons to help the Council deal with complaints about the conduct of elected and co-opted Members of Milton Keynes Council and Town or Parish Councils in the borough.

You’ll have an interest in local government and be able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high standards in public life. Independent Persons should be impartial, demonstrate integrity and inspire confidence and trust from the public.

We welcome applications from all social groups, irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability, or any other factor. To demonstrate independence in the role, we are particularly seeking applicants with no immediate link to Milton Keynes, as well as from those who live or work in the borough.

Elected Members and Town / Parish Councillors work to an agreed Code of Conduct and you will be required to give your opinion on any complaints that are received. You will also be required to give advice following any investigation.

Applicants cannot be related to, or be a close friend of, current or former Councillors or Officers of Milton Keynes Council or the Town / Parish Councils within the Borough.

An annual allowance will be payable to Independent Persons and you will be able to claim travel and subsistence expenses.
