Milton Keynes City Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012, promising that serving personnel, veterans and their families will be treated fairly and with respect. Following Milton Keynes being granted City status in 2022, the Covenant was re-signed to reflect this change and reaffirm our ongoing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
How we deliver our Armed Forces Covenant promise
The Armed Forces Liaison Group, chaired by Councillor Paul Trendall, Milton Keynes' Armed Forces Champion, meets quarterly to oversee and deliver the Milton Keynes Covenant Action Plan. In some areas, these meetings are known as Civil Military Partnership Board (CMPB) meetings.
The group works with partners to develop and deliver actions across key areas, including:
- health and wellbeing
- economy and skills
- recognition and remembrance and education
- children and young people
We are proud to hold Gold Award status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, having previously achieved Bronze in 2016 and Silver in 2019. The Gold Award recognises our long-standing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community and promoting the value that service personnel, veterans and reservists bring to the workplace.
We support Milton Keynes' Armed Forces community in a number of ways, including a guaranteed interview scheme for veterans where minimum job criteria are met. We also value and support colleagues who serve as reservists or adult cadet force volunteers. Find out more about covenant duties and how they may be delivered using the Covenant Duty Toolkit.
Any organisation can sign the Armed Forces Covenant and join the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. Further information is available on the Armed Forces Covenant website. .
