Interment Fees

The following fees include administration in line with statutory requirements: The Local Authorities’ Cemeteries Order 1977; the preparation of the burial plot prior to interment and the subsequent backfilling of the plot; and supervision of the interment by a member of the Cemetery Management Team. Interment fees DO NOT infer any rights to the burial plot. The Exclusive Right of Burial (EROB) must be purchased separately from Milton Keynes Council. 

Adult Burial Fee (for a new ‘Standard’ or double-depth grave not exceeding 7ft depth).   £1220.00 
Adult Burial Fee (for a new ‘Maximum’ or triple-depth grave not exceeding 9ft depth).  £1830.00 
Adult Re-Open Grave Fee (regardless of the depth of the grave)  £1220.00 
Adult Burial in a Shared or ‘Common Grave’ Fee (burial of unrelated adults in the same grave, with no Exclusive Right of Burial allowed)  £750.00 
Interment of Adult Cremation Ashes Fee (for a single set of cremation ashes; whether in an urn plot or a grave; and regardless of whether it is a new plot or a reopen): £385.00
For multiple interments of adult cremation ashes, (same plot, same date/time), the charge is £235.00 for each additional set of cremation ashes.   
Interment of Body Parts Fee £385.00 
Child Burial Fee (up to 18 years old. Grave size and depth are dependent on the age of the child)  £180.00 
Interment of a Child’s Cremation Ashes Fee (up to 18 years old; for a single set of cremation ashes; whether in an urn plot or a grave; and regardless of whether it is a new plot or a reopen)  £180.00 

Exclusive Right of Burial (EROB) Fees

Milton Keynes Council is a Burial Authority; we are the owners of cemetery land. We may grant to any person the Exclusive Right of Burial (EROB) in a grave or urn plot for a set period of years.  The EROB is currently granted for a maximum term of 30 years. 

The EROB is the legal right for a person or persons named on the document to determine who shall be buried in the grave/urn plot. You are not purchasing the grave/urn plot freehold; it is more like purchasing a lease. It also gives the named owner(s) the right to apply for a formal memorial e.g., a tablet or headstone (Please note: Additional Fees, Terms and Conditions are applicable). 

Adult Grave EROB (for a new ‘Standard’ or double-depth grave not exceeding 7ft depth). £1725.00 
Child Grave EROB (up to 18 years old.​ Grave size and depth are dependent on the age of the child). £110.00
2 Urn Plot EROB £735.00
4 Urn Plot EROB £830.00
Reservation Fee (5-year renewable fee for reserving an urn plot or grave. This does not confer any rights to the plot). £325.00

The EROB can be topped up in 5-yearly increments, back to the maximum term of 30 years. ​

Cemetery Memorial and Inscription Fees

Adult graves and 4 urn plots can accommodate a headstone/cross with a maximum height of 4ft or 1.3 metres. Two urn plots can only accommodate a tablet and the maximum dimensions vary depending on the cemetery/section, please check with the Crematorium and Cemetery Office. All applications for the right to erect a cemetery memorial include the right to make an inscription thereon.

Fee for the removal of an unauthorised cemetery memorial £628.00
Fee for the right to erect kerbs and/or a cover around two adjoining graves (not including the fee for the right to erect a headstone/cross £1189.00

All weekend interments are dependent on staff availability. Please contact the Crematorium and Cemetery Office before booking.

We have 3 different charges for genealogy searches/investigations depending on the level of detail required. As this is a labour-intensive process we will also need to discuss the estimated response times.
