Your Education

We are committing to supporting our care leavers into education, employment and training to find work by:

  • Working with the Career Sparks team to support you choose the right option for you
  • Supporting you with a Personal Education Plan (PEP) while you are in school and college to age 18
  • Encouraging you to be in education, employment and training

Going to University

If you decide to go to University:

  • We will support you with your first degree for up to 4 years
  • You will be entitled to a bursary as a Care Leaver, which is paid through the university. Each university has their own arrangements and funds.
  • We will provide you with up to £5000 per year to pay towards your accommodation  

Your Personal Advisor will:

  • Support you with your education programme, providing advice and support jointly with the Virtual School
  • When you have the letter of acceptance from the University your Personal advisor will apply to the Employment, Education and Training Panel (EET Panel) for agreement of the payment.
  • You will need to sign an agreement for your Personal Advisor to make arrangements with the university and accommodation on your behalf
  • Requests for the allowance to the EET panel cannot be made without this agreement.
  • Payments will only be made once you have engaged with your PA and Pathway Plan
  • Payments go direct to your accommodation provider

Community learning MK

Community Learning MK HUB (CLMK) - A Milton Keynes Council service that unites Adult Education, Youth Work, Youth Advice and Guidance, Music Education and Employment Support. We are in a unique position to support residents of Milton Keynes, regardless of age, to engage with a wide range of learning opportunities which boost individual achievement, promote community renewal and support economic growth.
