MILTON KEYNES CITY COUNCIL (THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF MILTON KEYNES) (VARIOUS ROADS IN MILTON KEYNES AND SURROUNDING AREAS) (20 MPH SPEED ZONES - ORDER 2021) VARIATION ORDER 2023

The general effect of the above proposed order will be to introduce a 20mph speed zone in Bletchley which will include the following lengths of road:

  • The entire lengths of Baccarra Grove, Bettina Grove, Celina Close, Chestnut Crescent, Clifford Avenue, Doreen Close, Frensham Drive, Hazel Grove, Mossmans Close, Saffron Street, Sunset Close and Willow Way
  • Brooklands Road, from its junction with Water Eaton Road to its junction with Findlay Way
  • Hunter Drive, from its junction with Water Eaton Road to number 67 Hunter Drive
  • Water Eaton Road, from its junction with Manor Road to its junction with Duncombe Street
  • Windsor Street, from its junction with Water Eaton Road to its junction with Osbourne Street

The introduction of the 20mph speed zone will help to reduce vehicular speeds along the above lengths of road, which will encourage and facilitate safe pedestrian and cyclist movements.

The introduction of the 20mph speed zone will help to reduce vehicular speeds along the above lengths of road, which will encourage and facilitate safe pedestrian and cyclist movements.

The Councils reasons for proposing the above Order are as follows:

  1. To maintain a safe environment throughout the road, particularly to encourage and facilitate pedestrian and cyclist movements along those parts of the road;
  2. For avoiding danger to people or other traffic using the above roads, or to prevent the likelihood of any such danger arising.

The proposed 20mph zone will be clearly signed in accordance with Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

As the Highway Authority for the above lengths of road, Milton Keynes City Council is satisfied that the introduction of the 20mph speed zone will help encourage a safer environment throughout.

The current speed limit along the above-mentioned roads is 30mph.

The Council considers it expedient to make the above Order to facilitate the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of vehicular traffic along the affected lengths of road.

The Council will continue to monitor the way in which highway facilities are used and address any issues that come to its notice and following meaningful consultation with all stakeholders do what it considers necessary to facilitate the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Milton Keynes Council is now carrying out statutory consultation on the above proposal.

Copies of the proposed traffic Order, the notice of proposal and the Councils statement of reasons, are available for inspection on the links below.
