Proposed 20mph Zone – Browns Wood Estate
Milton Keynes City Council is proposing the introduction of a new 20mph zone throughout the Browns Wood estate.
The proposal would involve installing new 20mph zone entry signs at key access points and a small number of repeater signs within the estate. No speed humps, road cushions, or other physical traffic-calming measures are proposed.
Traffic surveys indicate that vehicle speeds within Browns Wood are already generally low due to the existing road layout, including the residential street design and tight junction radii. As a result, signing alone is considered sufficient to support the proposed speed limit.
The proposed scheme would connect directly with the existing 20mph zone in Old Farm Park, extending the current arrangement westwards and creating a more consistent 20mph environment across the wider residential area.
Why are we proposing this scheme?
The proposed 20mph zone aims to:
- Improve road safety for all road users.
- Support walking and cycling within the local community.
- Create a more consistent speed limit across neighbouring residential areas.
- Enhance the overall residential environment for residents and visitors.
