Consultation

The council are proposing to make prescribed alterations at Bushfield School, Wyvern School, Downs Barn School, Portfields Primary School, The Willows School and Early Years Centre, Wood End Infant and Pre-school, Summerfield School, The Woodlands School and Romans Field School to deliver additional SEND provision in Milton Keynes.

Due to an increasing number of children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and as a result of analysis carried out by the Specialist Provision Place Planning Group, various options to manage future demand for children that require support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have been developed and considered. As a result of this, it was determined that additional SEND places are required in the system.

Providing additional capacity in the above schools supports us to meet growing demand, supports children to access education within Milton Keynes reducing the potential requirement for placement outside of Milton Keynes and supports children to maintain community ties, networks and relationships with peers. It will also enable the mainstream schools to have more specialist provisions on site strengthening inclusive education.

This additional provision will be delivered through the development of unit provisions at the mainstream schools and the expansion of places at The Woodlands School and Romans Field School’s secondary pathway.

This four week consultation sets out prescribed alterations to these schools and seeks to gather opinions on the proposal.
