Faulty or damaged street lights

When reporting a faulty streetlight to us, please include the column reference number so we can quickly identify the correct light. If this is not possible, use the interactive map to indicate the column location or use What3Words.

How we check and repair streetlights

Our street lighting engineers will visit the faulty street light and will carry out a full inspection within 14 days to determine what the issue is and will carry out a repair. If this is not possible, we'll use the results of this assessment to plan a more complex repair. This may involve replacing the cable in the ground, lantern or feeder pillar.

Each year we will look at all these more extensive repair jobs and will prioritise these into a programme using the allocated budget for the year.

We can't repair everything so we use a 'matrix' to prioritise the works so that we focus on the most urgent jobs to keep the network safe.

Our Repair Matrix

  1. High speed grid roads and their roundabouts
  2. All other roads (estate, industrial, rural  areas)
  3. Redways
  4. Underpasses
  5. City centre

You can use our Common Faults (PDF, 1.5MB) factsheet if you are unsure what the issue is.
