Milton Keynes City Council bus stop suspensions
There will be important changes to the way we process bus stop suspension requests from 1 September 2025.
Milton Keynes City Council had previously not charged for bus stop suspensions, this will be changing and a per stop fee will be applied for bus stop suspension requests.
Request temporary bus stop suspension.
Often when working on the highway, it’s necessary to temporarily close a bus stop to avoid conflict between bus users and the works being carried out.
Once you have obtained works permit from our Traffic Management team, we can, upon request, suspend affected bus stops. This includes:
- closing the bus stop
- provision of a temporary bus stop (where appropriate)
- provision and erection of on-site and/or electronic notices
Apply for a temporary bus stop suspension.
A standard closure costs £103 per bus stop.
This rate applies if the application and payment are made 10 or more working days before the bus stop closure is required.
An emergency closure costs £153 per bus stop.
This rate applies if the application and payment are made with less than 10 working days’ notice before the bus stop closure is required.
We will process your request once we receive your application, payment and the works permit has been granted. Please supply a copy of your permit number and where possible a copy of your traffic management plans.
In your suspension application you will need to include valid invoicing details (company name, address and purchase order number).
Please include either the 4 Digit bus stop code located on the front of the shelter or sign or the bus stop code that can be found on Google Maps. All IDs are prefixed by ‘mlt’, for example "mltgapt". Without this, there may be a delay in processing your application.
Cancelling or amending a temporary bus stop closure.
If you no longer require a bus stop closure, or it's delayed and needs to be extended, it's your responsibility to notify us in adequate time to cancel or extend the application. Failure to do so may result in additional charges.
You can email Passenger.transport@milton-keynes.gov.uk for more information or to request a bus stop suspension.
