Accessibility Fund

The Accessibility Fund provides £25k each year to make improvements to the public highway. Any MK resident, parish council or ward councillor can apply to the fund and you may submit more than one application if you wish.

Any application received during the 2023-2024 financial year will be checked against our criteria which includes:

  1. looking at how many people will benefit from a potential scheme,
  2. will it create any other issues e.g., removing a bollard may mean motorised vehicles then have access,
  3. the size and scope of the works,
  4. landownership and budget.

We will also carry out site assessments to see what the issue is and to decide what can be done to improve accessibility. Some schemes may not be possible as they may be too costly, it will only benefit a few individuals and not the wider community or could be included in another highways scheme.

Requests may be for:

  • Adding dropped kerbs and tactile paving to allow access
  • Removing or adding a handrail
  • Signage or refresh markings
  • Widening access or removing vegetation

Any applications made the previous financial year will be reviewed for selection the following year. Successful applicants to the fund will be notified by letter or email.
