Other Roles within Adult Social Care

Community Occupational Therapists (OTs)

The Community Occupational Therapy team supports adults in the Milton Keynes Area who have long term physical disabilities. As part of their role, Occupational Therapists (OTs) go out to individuals’ homes to conduct an assessment to see what can be provided to support the person’s independence. This may be information and advice about techniques and the home layout, the provision of equipment or support with re-housing.

Access

The Access Team is the ‘front door’ into Adult Social Care. The Customer Liaison Officers (CLOs) take calls and referrals from the public and professionals in the community for individuals who would have social care needs. CLOs liaise with appropriate individuals and organisations to ensure they have collected as much detail and information as possible for the team. CLOs have excellent communication skills and a broad range of knowledge on professional, voluntary and private services to accurately signpost people within the community and promote their independence and well-being. Alongside CLOs the Access Team also have support workers.

Business Support

The business support position is a varied role providing vital support to all areas of adult social care.  Business Support Assistants are based in various locations, including day services and Civic offices. Some of the tasks performed by Business Support Assistants include note taking at meetings, diary management and meeting organisation. They also manage invoices for suppliers and service users. Business Support Assistants deliver an efficient and customer focused service by processing and responding to communications, taking messages and accurately inputting data into information systems, databases and spreadsheets. If based in the day services, tasks will include ensuring visitors are signed in and appropriately directed to the person they are visiting or meeting with.

Personal Assistant Register

The Personal Assistant Register is a hub, which provides a register of Personal Assistants who work in the Milton Keynes area. The aim of the register is to help adults who need care and support find a Personal Assistant (PA), who is funded through direct payments from the Council, or are privately
funded. Personal Assistants work directly for the person they are supporting, enabling them to live the life they choose. If you are a Personal Assistant and are passionate about working with adults with care and support needs, register with Milton Keynes Council here.

Shared Lives

Shared Lives services are designed to support adults with care and support needs.

This service is available to all Adult Social Care service users. The scheme matches people with an approved Shared Lives Carer. The carers share their regular family and community life with the adult to provide the help they need, this can include social and recreational activities, washing and dressing and preparing food. The scheme is dedicated to families and communities contributing to the well-being of people with support needs, and for those people to be active, valued citizens. It focuses on enabling people with a disability to experience and build valuable relationships with others.
