Opportunities for Co-Option

If you have not been elected as a Youth Councillor, there are opportunities to become a Co-opted non-elected Youth Councillor. 

Who can be a co-opted member?

To be a co-opted (non-elected) member of MKYC you must live in Milton Keynes:
• Attend school or be educated outside of Milton Keynes
• Attend an alternative school setting in Milton Keynes
• Are home schooled.
• You are a looked after child.
• You are a child with SEND.
• Are a young person fleeing conflict or have refugee status.

How do I apply?

To apply for a co-opted position on MKYC you will need to complete this form and send it back to lisa.thompson2@milton-keynes.gov.uk who will contact you and your parent / guardian to discuss the next steps.

What is MK Youth Council (MKYC)?

  • A group of 11-18 year olds, giving a voice to all young people in MK
  • The group talks to decision makers
  • It aims to improve MK as a place to live for young people
  • Contributes to improving services for young people in MK

What would you need to do?

  • Come to monthly MKYC meetings
  • Come to Action Group meetings  

What else could you do?

  • Talk to decision makers
  • Talk to young people across MK about their views
  • Go to conferences and meetings, day trips and residentials
