The flags have been raised and the countdown is really beginning as we head towards a record-breaking UEFA Women's EURO 2022. There’s just 100 days to go until show time when the world’s leading football players take aim and England gets behind the Lionesses.
Milton Keynes is hosting four games including a semi-final in what’s expected to be the most-attended women’s football tournament ever.
Stadium MK is the destination for three group games involving teams from Germany, Denmark, Spain, and Finland, as well as a semi-final:
- Spain - Finland, 5pm on Friday 8 July
- Finland – Germany, 8pm on Saturday 16 July
- Denmark – Finland, 5pm on Tuesday 12 July
- Semi-final match, 8pm on Wednesday 27 July
Some lucky fans have already secured their attendance via a public ballot, but remaining tickets go on general sale at 8am on Monday 28 March, with exactly 100 days to go to show time. On all local match days, a carnival-like Fan Party will be held at Station Square in Central Milton Keynes, which will be fully decorated in tournament colours. This will be where thousands of supporters arriving by train and car will join local families, groups, and other fans to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy music, films and other entertainment, a family fun zone, refreshments, and football-themed exhibitions. From Station Square, fans will be able to make their way to Stadium MK via dedicated shuttle buses.
Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Mohammed Khan and Cabinet Member for Sport Cllr Jane Carr raised the national flags of Germany, Denmark, Spain, and Finland at Station Square this week to signal the countdown.
Cabinet Member for Sport Cllr Jane Carr said: “This is absolutely shaping up to be a once in a life-time event on our doorstep, where we can experience brilliant world class football alongside some family-friendly free activities, or just soak up the atmosphere of celebration and excitement. I’m really looking forward to showing the visiting fans from around the world a warm welcome, as well as unlocking opportunities in grassroots football to many more girls and women locally.”

Several specially commissioned cultural projects will celebrate the rich history of women’s football and players. On Saturday 26 March, musically minded citizens can bring an instrument to Middleton Hall in the centre:mk between 10.30am and 4pm to help create a new ‘singable’ anthem for UEFA Women's EURO 2022 that celebrates each of the tournament host cities as well as women’s football. The finished anthem will be recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. More events will be announced in the coming weeks.
