Long-term plan for leisure facilities

Milton Keynes City Council will decide next week on appointing an operator to run Bletchley Leisure Centre, Woughton Leisure Centre and Windmill Hill Golf Centre under a new long-term contract.

This step marks the next phase in securing the future of these popular facilities and delivering major investment for local communities. The new contract will run for ten years, with the option to extend for another five, creating a potential 15-year agreement. This long-term approach gives the chosen operator confidence to invest in the sites, upgrade facilities and provide high-quality services for residents.

Currently, Bletchley Leisure Centre operates under a short 16-month lease, while Woughton Leisure Centre and Windmill Hill Golf Centre are managed under a service agreement. The new contract brings all three sites under one modern agreement, ensuring stability and consistency.

Before the new contract starts, the city council will fund a new car park lift at Bletchley Leisure Centre, which is currently out of service. The operator will carry out the replacement work during the onboarding process.

If approved, residents can expect modernised facilities, improved accessibility and more community-focused activities aimed at promoting health and wellbeing across the city.

“The new contract helps secure investment and ensures these cherished sites are around for a very long time. It will also strengthen engagement with local people, boost participation and place the centres at the heart of these communities, promoting health and wellbeing across all age groups. As a Bletchley resident, I welcome this ongoing support for our local centres and look forward to investment in all three facilities that promote sport, health, and wellbeing. These centres are a vital part of our communities and I’m glad we’re taking this step which will bring major investment to enhance and protect them.”
