Families move into new council homes in Fairfields

Milton Keynes City Council is welcoming families into 21 new flats in Fairfields purchased last year.

The city council bought 18 two-bedroom flats as well as three with one-bedroom. Positioned close to schools and green spaces, and with a grocery store on the ground floor, the new homes offer a supportive setting for families to settle and thrive.

Earlier this week, city council colleagues visited tenant Patricia who has moved into one of the flats with her young family. Like all new tenants, she was previously in temporary accommodation and is settling into her new home which will give her the opportunities to raise her family in a secure environment.

The city council is determined to make more permanent homes available to families currently in temporary accommodation through actively preventing homelessness, providing longer-term accommodation and supporting tenants into the private rented sector. MK City Council’s new build programme is also underway with 183 homes being built on the Lakes Estate and a further 66 homes planned at Cripps Lodge in Netherfield.

“It’s fantastic to hear that families are settling in well into their new homes, which will provide them with a safe and secure place to live. We’re always looking at ways we can increase our housing offer whether that’s building homes ourselves or buying them on the market.

“We’ve seen a huge increase in demand and we’re doing our best. We’ll continue our efforts to prevent homelessness in the first place and support people find a home that’s right for them.”
- Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Ed Hume
