Whether it's playing sport, joining a fitness class, taking the children swimming or meeting friends at a local community group, residents across Milton Keynes are set to benefit from almost £202,000 of investment in the facilities that help keep communities active and connected.
Milton Keynes City Council has approved funding for a range of improvement projects at four popular venues across the city, using money secured through developer contributions. The improvements include:
- Sports Central: upgrades will include new LED floodlights, refreshed tennis and netball court markings, and improvements to indoor meeting, café and seating areas. The project will enhance the experience for the thousands of people who use the facility each year while reducing energy costs.
- Middleton Pool: an additional exercise and fitness space, helping meet growing demand for health and wellbeing activities and giving more residents opportunities to get active.
- Monkston Community Centre: funding will be used to replace tables and chairs, supporting the groups, classes and events that bring local people together.
- Wolverton Swimming and Fitness Centre: will receive support for its solar energy system, helping reduce running costs and allowing more resources to be focused on services for residents.
The funding has been secured through Section 106 agreements with developers. These agreements help ensure that as new homes are built, investment is also made in the facilities and infrastructure communities need, allowing both existing and future residents to benefit from growth.
"These are the places where people make friends, learn new skills, keep active and spend time together. This investment will help ensure they continue to thrive, benefiting the communities that already use them and the new neighbourhoods being created across our city. The funding comes from agreements with developers, ensuring that growth helps support the facilities and services local people rely on. It's a great example of development helping to fund improvements that make a real difference to communities across Milton Keynes."
