Midsummer Festival

A day of colour, creativity and celebration will fill Milton Keynes city centre next month as the popular free Midsummer Festival returns with an exciting programme for all ages.

The 2026 event will take place on Sunday 21 June from 10am to 8pm and promises an even bigger and more imaginative programme than previous years.

The Midsummer Festival is a celebration inspired by the summer solstice. Held along Midsummer Boulevard, which was designed to align with the rising and setting sun, the event transforms the area into a lively outdoor space filled with performances, creative workshops, art installations, live music, street food and a wide range of activities for all ages.

The festival, which is organised by Milton Keynes City Council, attracts tens of thousands of visitors and continues to grow each year, offering new experiences and opportunities for people to come together and enjoy the start of summer.

This year’s line-up features standout performances including spectacular puppet processions by Handmade Productions, along with roaming characters such as The Wandering Oracles, Hearthfolk and the playful Moon Hares. Visitors can also explore interactive installations like CANOPY and the Mud Plant Rave, alongside storytelling, imaginative experiences and relaxed spaces to enjoy the atmosphere.

Families can get involved in hands-on creative sessions, from craft workshops and clay activities to flower crown and corn dolly making, with chances to help create artworks throughout the day. A wide range of street food and drink will be available, alongside a lively programme of music curated by The Craufurd Arms, showcasing some of the best local folk talent.

The festival is designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, with activities suitable for all ages and interests. It offers a chance for residents and visitors to explore the city centre in a new way while celebrating light, nature and community.

“Midsummer Festival has quickly become a highlight of our events calendar, bringing people together in a really special way. It’s fantastic to see the city centre come alive with creativity, performance and activity, and we’re proud to offer a free event that everyone can enjoy. We’re looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors for what promises to be another brilliant day.”
- Leader of MK City Council, Cllr Jane Carr
