Milton Keynes City Council has today revealed its boldest digital innovation yet: the world’s first Robot Mayor, created in tribute to the city’s pioneering status in robotics and its thriving tech sector, where one in three local jobs is tech-related.
The fully clean‑energy‑powered RoboMayor is scheduled to take office this May.
In a historic upgrade to civic ceremony, ribbon‑cutting duties will be a literal snip thanks to the Mayor’s titanium‑coated scissor attachment, fitted in place of a left hand. For convenience, the robot also carries an internal ribbon‑spooling system, allowing it to generate ceremonial ribbon on demand.
Built to a cutting‑edge specification, RoboMayor will also be able to boost local Wi‑Fi signals, thanks to newly 5G‑enabled Mayoral chains of office.
Outgoing Mayor Cllr James Lancaster, who has served as the Mayor of Milton Keynes for 2025/26, commented: “I’m more than happy to step aside to welcome our new robotic colleague, especially as it highlights the incredible work of our local businesses in robotics, AI and tech.”
Residents are invited to submit questions to RoboMayor via the City Council’s website. All enquiries will be processed, analysed and answered in precisely 0.0004 seconds.
