Minerals and Waste Local Plan
Milton Keynes City Council is the Minerals and Waste Planning Authority (MWPA) for the city. By law we must prepare and adopt a new Minerals and Waste Local Plan (MWLP) which sets out how minerals and waste development will be managed in the future.
The MWLP will set out where minerals are sourced and how waste is managed in Milton Keynes. It will play an important role in supporting growth, infrastructure and sustainability across the city. It will establish priorities for the extraction and supply of sufficient mineral aggregates and for the management of waste.

Once adopted, the MWLP will replace both the Minerals Local Plan 2017 (MLP) and the Waste Development Plan Document (2008) (Waste DPD).

Consultations
We will be carrying out a Scoping Consultation between October and December later this year. This will seek stakeholder feedback on what the plan should contain and how we will engage with people when preparing the plan. The details and documents for the Scoping Consultation will be published when the consultation starts.
Alongside the Scoping consultation, we will be carrying out a Call for Sites, for developers, minerals and waste operators, and landowners to submit sites that could be allocated for minerals or waste activities. The Call for Sites will be hosted on our interactive mapping system, and we will provide a link to this, and instructions for use, when the consultation starts.
Timeline
The MWLP is being prepared under the 30-month plan-making process and will involve a series of public consultations and gateway tests, where advice is sought as the plan progresses. More information on the stages of the MWLP can be found in the MWLP Timetable, which is shown above.
