Garage Conversions

Requirements

The conversion of an attached garage (and/or a detached garage if the internal floor area is over 30 square metres in size and/or it has sleeping accommodation in it) into living accommodation is controlled under the Building Regulations and requires a formal application to be submitted before the work commences.

This guidance note sets out basic options for achieving compliance with the Building Regulations. If you wish to do any of the work in a different way please check with the Building Control Surveyor as to whether this would be acceptable.
