Employment Support Services

     

Welcome to Employment Support Services. We are a specialist service working within Community Learning MK enabling adults with SEND, disabilities, health conditions and complex needs to gain successful employment.

Supported Employment - SEND

Our key priorities are to:

  • ensure more people with SEND and learning difficulties have the opportunity to work.
  • promote the benefits of supported employment with local employers.
  • ensure people with SEND and learning difficulties are given the support necessary to find sustainable and meaningful employment.

  • Work together to build a vocational profile which highlights your skills, abilities and job preferences.
  • One-to-one support to help you search for jobs and apply for them.
  • Help you prepare for job interviews which may include practice or 'mock' interviews.
  • Arrange work trials to help you practise your skills and try out different types of jobs.
  • Travel training to ensure you can get to and from work.
  • Your Employment Development Worker will support you for the first few months while you learn the skills you need and feel confident in your new role.

Once a referral has been made ...

  1. Initial Assessment - One-to-one meeting to discuss personal details, likes and dislikes and job aspirations.
  2. Training Needs and Assessment - Mini work-related tasks to see skill levels and training needs including vocational profiling.
  3. Application Stage - One-to-one support with applying for jobs, preparing for work, work experience opportunities and developing skills.
  4. Employment Gained - We will monitor progress with you and your employer, to establish ongoing support needs.
  5. Independent Employment - We will fade our support once you are trained and offer further support if needed in the future.

Connect to Work is a free, friendly, supported employment programme designed to help you move forward. This specialised support has been designed to help individuals who experience significant barriers to enter the workforce.  We understand that everyone's journey is different. That’s why our support is personalised, non-judgmental, and focused on identifying and building upon your strengths.

  • One-to-one support from experienced Employment Specialists
  • Tailored action plans to help you move towards work at your own pace
  • Help with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation
  • Access to training, volunteering, and work placements
  • Support with benefits, travel, and workplace adjustments
  • Ongoing support and guidance even after you start work 

If you live in Milton Keynes and are aged 18+, you may be eligible. We welcome referrals from:

  • Individuals
  • Family members or carers
  • Health professionals
  • Community organisations

Pathways to Employment course

We offer a 10-week course to help complete a detailed profile of individuals. The course covers skills required within the workplace including communication, workplace behaviours and interview skills. At the end of the 10 weeks, a pathway to employment will be established and an Employment Development Worker will be allocated.
