Fidgeting: a social story for teachers

A Social Story for Teachers, produced by Leap.

FIDGETING IS OK

Fidgeting means moving around when I feel restless.

For example, fidgeting can be rocking on the chair or wiggling fingers.

Fidgeting can be stretching arms and legs.

Fidgeting can be playing with an object such as white tack.

Fidgeting helps people to stay alert and pay attention.

IT IS OK TO FIDGET.

I can help my pupils when they are fidgeting by allowing them to fidget.

I can help my pupils when they are fidgeting by providing them something to fidget with.

It is ok for my pupils to fidget, if it is not interfering with their concentration, If my pupils are fidgeting and they have stopped paying attention during the lesson, I can help them by letting them have a movement break.

I should know what movement break to offer my pupils.

The OT will help me to know what movement break to offer my pupils.

If the OT is not available, I will try to remember that it is ok for my pupils to fidget during a lesson.
