Gypsy, Roma and Travellers (GRT)

Our Ethnic Minority Achievement team includes a GRT school mentor.  Their work involves:

  • promoting access to education for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils (GRT) - offering, encouraging and supporting admission to local schools 
  • providing advice to schools, EY settings and families on accessing education
  • enabling GRT pupils to attain their full potential 
  • promoting awareness of this minority group - reflecting GRT culture positively in settings

Gypsy, Roma and Travellers (GRT) are:

  • housed, sited and mobile Gypsies
  • travellers
  • Irish travellers - holding ethnic minority status
  • Roma
  • fairground, and circus families
  • barge families - living on waterways
  • new travellers
