Due to COVID-19 there may be various times that children and young people will spend time at home, whether it is due to a National lockdown, a need to self-isolate or because of becoming unwell with Coronavirus. Our children and young people can then find it difficult to return to school, facing anxiety over missed learning or separation from parents/carers, worries about COVID and the changes within school because of it and the return to different routines and expectations. The resources below aim to support our children in the return to school and will continue to be added to.
There are many different reasons why returning to school can be a difficult time for our children and young people, and many different ways to offer support to them. Our Inclusion and Intervention Team have put together some of these strategies in a one page poster (PDF, 236KB)that you can save, and print off, to keep handy when you need it.
Monthly calendar (PDF, 452KB) – Use visuals/pictures to show what days your child/young person goes to school and the days they are at home. It may be helpful to add other important events and tick off once completed.
Count down to Monday 8 March (PDF, 75KB) – Tick off each day so your child/young person can visually see how long until they are due to go back to school.
Count down to school (PDF, 75KB) and Visuals to Support Calendars (PDF, 80KB) – these images may be useful to save and print off to add to your monthly calendars for use when needed. They can also be a great resource to support any visual timetable for our children and young people with SEND.
Emotional Toolbox (PDF, 189KB) - An Emotional Toolbox is a strategy developed by Tony Attwood which provides a child or young person with a visual to identify strategies they may find helpful when they are feeling anxious, angry or other negative emotions. These strategies, or 'tools' can be personalised for them to work on pro-actively with adult support.
