Milton Keynes City Council awarded funding to 5 organisations to deliver projects across Milton Keynes that help our businesses become more sustainable, more resilient to climate risks and more competitive.
These projects are now live and Milton Keynes businesses can access free support and resources from each of these projects. You can find more information about each project and how to benefit from it below:
MK Carbon Ready – TrackZero
MK Carbon Ready is a free programme helping businesses across Milton Keynes measure their carbon footprint, reduce emissions and prepare for the growing sustainability requirements placed on suppliers. As larger organisations increasingly ask their supply chains for credible carbon data, the programme gives local businesses a simple and practical way to respond, without needing prior sustainability expertise or expensive consultancy support.
Through MK Carbon Ready, Milton Keynes businesses can access TrackZero Lite for free to begin measuring their emissions. Up to 50 local businesses can also claim a fully funded TrackZero Sustainability Suite licence, helping them complete a carbon footprint, establish a carbon baseline, create a reduction plan and respond credibly to sustainability requests from customers and supply chains.
Alongside the software, TrackZero is running 12 monthly webinars open to businesses across Milton Keynes, covering how to get started with carbon measurement, what customers and procurement teams increasingly expect, and how better carbon data can create commercial opportunities and identify opportunities to reduce emissions.

Sustainable Business: Milton Keynes (2.0) – Green Lark Environmental Solutions
Sustainable Business: Milton Keynes is a fully funded programme of one-to-one sustainability support for businesses across the Milton Keynes City Council area, funded by Milton Keynes City Council through the Green Business Fund and delivered by Green Lark Environmental Solutions.
Each participating business receives
- A full carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064.
- Structured one-to-one consultancy with a Chartered Environmentalist.
- A written carbon reduction plan setting out prioritised, achievable actions.
- Places on accredited Carbon Literacy training.
- The Green Lark Carbon Verified badge on completion.
Support is free at the point of use and delivered on site and remotely. Delivery is led by Daniel Cope CEnv MISEP, Chartered Environmentalist and accredited Carbon Literacy trainer.

Enabling Resource Efficiency through Industrial Symbiosis in Milton Keynes – International Synergies
Industrial symbiosis treats waste as a valuable resource that is simply in the wrong place. By connecting businesses through a shared network, one business’s waste can become another’s valuable resource input, reducing costs and carbon emissions for the companies involved.
Access to the SYNERGie® Direct resource-matching platform will enable businesses across the MK postcode area to identify opportunities to reuse resources, reduce emissions and generate economic benefits. Since 2009, SYNERGie® Direct has helped businesses in more than 30 countries to reuse, repurpose and refurbish waste and unwanted resources from other organisations.

MK Green Business Sustainability and ISO Support Programme – Milton Keynes Green Business Network
Milton Keynes Green Businesses Network is delivering a funded sustainability and ISO implementation programme for a cohort of 10 Milton Keynes businesses.
The programme will help participating businesses embed best-practice environmental management systems into day-to-day operations, creating the structure needed to accelerate wider sustainability, carbon reduction and continual-improvement objectives.
Participants will work towards ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14064-1 greenhouse gas accounting through seven practical workshops, implementation resources, peer learning, specialist support and a dedicated 1:1 internal audit to assess certification readiness.
Businesses will also develop Scope 1 and 2 emissions inventories, with attempts to include Scope 3.

Community Solar for MK Business – MK Community Energy
Milton Keynes Community Energy (MKCE) fully funds, installs and maintains community-owned solar for local schools, businesses and community organisations at no capital cost or risk to the host. Community-owned solar means money stays local.
What organisations get:
- Lower bills from day 1 - Your organisation simply buys the electricity you use, at a lower price than your current tariff.
- Zero cost, zero hassle - You have no capital outlay, and no responsibility for maintenance, insurance or equipment replacement. You get all the benefits of clean, cheaper energy without the cost or the risk.

Community solar works best for businesses that own their building or land and use a good amount of electricity during the day. Schools, NHS sites, community buildings, offices, warehouses and workshops are all typical hosts.
Getting a survey done now means a system can be planned for spring 2027, ready for the long days when solar generates most.
