The Mayor of Milton Keynes for 2026-27 is Councillor Paul Trendall, who was officially appointed at Milton Keynes City Council’s Annual Meeting on 20 May.
Born in London’s east end, Paul moved to Milton Keynes in 1979 initially living in Fishermead before moving to Woolstone in 1986.
He was first elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor for Cambell Park & Old Woughton ward in 2019 with an impressive majority of 12, and in May 2026 was elected to the new ward of Campbell Park and Willen with a majority increased by 6,558% in comparison.
Prior to becoming Mayor, Paul was Deputy Mayor of the city.
During his time with Milton Keynes City Council, Paul has served on various committees, panels and groups, and has been Chair of the Standards Committee.
He has been the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Liberal Democrat Council Group and Deputy Leader of the Opposition and served in the Cabinet during the years of the Progressive Alliance.
Other council appointments have seen Paul being a trustee of the Cross & Stable Community Centre and the MK Citizens Advice Bureau, and he represented the city on the Thames Valley Police & Crime Panel.
He has been the city’s Armed Forces Champion since 2020 having served in the Royal Green Jackets, ending his military service with the rank and appointment of WO2 (RSWO).
Paul’s work and business interests have been largely in the facilities management sector, predominantly in corporate and transport security. During this time he twice sat on the board of the International Professional Security Association, the world’s oldest security trade body. He was also managing director of a manufacturing and installation business in Yorkshire.
As Mayor, Paul’s vision is that it is to promote and celebrate the work of the many community groups, cultures, faiths and charities across the city who enrich the lives, and support those who live here.
Paul has been married to his wife Pauline for 46 years and has a daughter. He also knows nothing meaningful about football and so has been a life-long West Ham fan.
