Admiral Nurse Service - Adult Social Care

What do Admiral Nurses do?

Admiral Nurses are trained and supported by Dementia UK and are a specialist service to:

  • help carers and families navigate the support, care and services provided
  • provide support to families and carers in complex situations
  • advise other professionals
  • more information about Admiral Nurses is on the Dementia UK website.

How to access this service

  • Professional or self-referrals for ongoing 1:1 support can be made via the ACCESS Team.
  • The nurses run and attend a number of groups which carers can attend.( please see what’s on section for details of groups)
  • The nurses can be contacted directly to discuss any issues or concerns prior to making referrals or using our drop‑in services on 01908 252288 or by emailing the team on Admiralnurseteam@milton-keynes.gov.uk (As all nurses are clinical staff, there may be times when the phone is unattended. However, we aim to respond to all messages within 24 hours.​)
  • For out of hours support from Admiral Nurses you can contact the national helpline: 0800 888 6678 Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm; Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 5pm or email the helpline@dementiauk.org

Open to anyone with dementia, neurological conditions or brain injuries

Every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm, Tattenhoe Sports Pavilion, Holborn Crescent, MK4 3EQ.           

MK Admiral Nurses are dementia specialists available on the second Wednesday of each month to support carers - offering guidance on dementia, promoting self-care and resilience, and exploring practical solutions for caregiving.

The cost of a session is £6.50. (Card only and carers go free) book a space by contacting  information@mkdonsset.com  or calling 01908 622888.

For those living with dementia or supporting a loved one.

Caring for someone with dementia can be challenging, you don’t have to do it alone. Our Admiral Nurse Masterclasses are designed to give carers practical advice, supportive group discussions, and helpful resources to take away.

Each session focuses on key topics such as:

  • Communication
  • Emotional impact
  • Advanced care planning
  • Understanding and managing challenging behaviours

Sessions run throughout the year and can be booked individually, so you can choose the areas most relevant to you.
