Consultation
Milton Keynes City Council is seeking feedback on a proposed extension to the existing Vehicle Related Anti-Social Behaviour Public Space Protection Order (commonly referred to as the car cruising PSPO). PSPOs are legal tools introduced under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. They allow local authorities to restrict specific behaviours in designated areas to help ensure public spaces remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.
The current PSPO, which targets vehicle-related anti-social behaviour particularly 'car cruising' and 'street racing' is due to expire in January 2026.
We are proposing a three-year extension to continue addressing these issues effectively, plus an additional two activities that would be considered a breach of the Order.
We have also added a definition of an Authorised Officer to the Order who can issue a £100 fixed penalty notice: An Authorised Officer means a police officer, a police community support officer (PCSO), council officer, or a person authorised in writing by the council to enforce the public space protection order.
