Proposed 40mph speed restriction:

The proposed 40mph speed limit will extend from a point 445 metres south of the centreline of Cuckoo Hill Rise, for a distance of 400 metres in a southerly direction.

The proposed 40mph speed limit comes as a result of the new Plot 101 housing development which will be accessed from Castlethorpe Road and will serve the purpose of a buffer zone on Castlethorpe Road on the approach to the 30mph speed limit.

As the Highway Authority for that part of Castlethorpe Road, Milton Keynes City Council is satisfied that the introduction of the above proposed speed restriction will encourage the convenient and safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Proposed traffic calming features:

The effect of the Section 90 Statutory Notification will be to inform the general public that the Council proposes to construct traffic calming measures consisting of four flat top speed humps on Castlethorpe Road in Hanslope under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980.

The two flat top speed humps will extend across the full width of the carriageway and will be located as follows:

Speed Hump 1:         From a point 162 metres south of the centreline of Cuckoo Hill Rise, for a distance of 7 metres in a southerly direction

Speed Hump 2:         From a point 254 metres south of the centreline of Cuckoo Hill Rise, for a distance of 7 metres in a southerly direction

Speed Hump 3:         From a point 326 metres south of the centreline of Cuckoo Hill Rise, for a distance of 7 metres in a southerly direction

Speed Hump 4:         From a point 406 metres south of the centreline of Cuckoo Hill Rise, for a distance of 7 metres in a southerly direction

The two flat top speed humps will be constructed of bituminous material or similar and will have a central lift of 100 millimetre.

The introduction of the traffic calming features will help to reduce vehicular speeds on Castlethorpe Road in Hanslope, which will encourage and facilitate safe pedestrian and cyclist movements.

The Council considers it expedient to introduce the traffic calming measures:

  • to facilitate the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of pedestrians and cyclists on Castlethorpe Road in Hanslope;
  • for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.

Copies of the two statutory notices, the proposed 40mph speed limit traffic regulation Order, statements of reasons and a plan showing the location of the traffic calming measures, are available for inspection below.
