Consultation
Last year, we commissioned an independent consultant to carry out a comprehensive traffic and safety assessment across the grid road network.
This review examined collision data, safety records, and the risks associated with right-turn movements at central reserve gaps on dual carriageways, as well as at junctions on single carriageway roads.
Using this assessment, we identified and prioritised locations for additional road safety improvements, including right-turn bans and gap closures.
Each location was evaluated against seven key criteria:
• Collision history (based on multi-year data)
• Traffic volumes (from surveys and public data)
• Speed limits (and typical approach speeds)
• Traffic routing (impact of alternative routes)
• Estate access (potential inconvenience to residents)
• Bus routes (any impact on public transport)
• Redways (effects on walking and cycling infrastructure)
These criteria were weighted according to their importance, and the section of V6 Grafton Street under consultation scored highly in the most critical categories, particularly due to frequent collisions involving right turns and high vehicle speeds.
As with the junction at Gibsons Green, the proposed right-turn restriction is intended to reduce turning manoeuvres and thereby lower the risk of collisions along the corridor.

We welcome your feedback on these proposals by Friday, 17 November 2025.
After the deadline we will review all feedback received during the consultation period.
