Milton Keynes Council is serving statutory notification on the following:

The Council of the Borough of Milton Keynes – Proposed Traffic Calming Scheme on Newton Road, Bletchley

The effect of the above notice will be to inform the general public that the Council proposes to construct traffic calming measures consisting of one speed hump and four sets of speed cushions on parts of Newton Road, Bletchley.

The speed hump will be positioned 14 metres south-west of its junction with St David Close and will extend for a distance of 4.5 metres in a south-western direction.  The speed hump will extend across the entire width of the carriageway whilst maintaining a 300mm gap between the hump and the kerbline.

Height 75mm

Width full width of the carriageway (road)

Length 4.5 metres

Speed Cushions (x4)

The four sets of speed cushions will be positioned along Newton Road in Bletchley as follows:

Set 1:  From a point 23.5 metres south-west of the centreline of its junction with Selbourne Avenue, for a distance of 3 metres in a south-westerly direction (adjacent to number 40);

Set 2:    From a point 21.6 metres north-east of the centreline of its junction with St Mary’s Avenue, for a distance of 3 metres in a north-easterly direction (adjacent to numbers 66);

Set 3:    From a point 65.3 metres south-west of the centreline of its junction with St Mary’s Avenue, for a distance of 3 metres in a south-westerly direction (adjacent to numbers 84/88);

Set 4:    From a point 12.1 metres north-east of the centreline of its junction with St Aidan’s Close, for a distance of 3 metres in a south-easterly direction (adjacent to numbers 104/106);

Speed Cushion Dimensions:

Height 75mm

Width 1.8 metres

Length 3 metres

 

The Council's reason for introducing the above traffic calming measures comes as a result of improving road safety along the affected length of road.

The introduction of the traffic calming measures will help to reduce vehicular speeds Newton Road, Bletchley, which will encourage and facilitate safe pedestrian and cyclist movement.

The Council considers it expedient to introduce the traffic calming measures:

  • To avoid danger to people or other traffic using Newton Road in Bletchley or to prevent the likelihood of any such danger arising;

  • To create a safer environment throughout Newton Road in Bletchley and to encourage and facilitate pedestrian and cyclist movements.
