As a Category 1 Responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, Milton Keynes Council (MKC) has duties to respond, give advice, risk assess and plan for emergencies or incidents that may affect residents or businesses.
The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 defines Local Authorities as Category 1 Responders meaning MKC is required to fulfil the duties set out in the Act. Our MKC Emergency Response Flow and our emergency response handbook give an overview of the response.
To do this, we work closely with Emergency Services across the borough (Fire, Police, Ambulance) as well as MK University Hospital, MK Clinical Commissioning Group, voluntary organisations, local and national resilience forums, and the business community. The Milton Keynes Resilience Group links directly into the Thames Valley Local Resilience Forum (TVLRF) and meets regularly to assess and share current risks, local information and plans. Risk information for the Thames Valley area can be viewed on the TVLRF risk register.
Local multi-agency plans may involve working together to evacuate a sizeable affected area, an example of this can be seen in the Central Milton Keynes Evacuation Plan.
